It's not about the number of bins Claire, it's about attitude. I mean, lets be honest,
if you can carry a full Coke can or crisp packet, you can carry an empty one.
Been telling my kids that since they were wee ones. Our washing machine is all the signs of it too!
They're great for throwing the tins/bottles into the nearest recycling bin, but empty wrappers always seem to be forgotten about in pockets. Until they're discovered later in the washer or dryer.

agree 100% - what annoys me about litter in this country though is that you'll see it all over the place, even when there are bins every 10 feet and no excuses

Tyred feet.
Note how well that hoof is cared for. Oiled, correctly shod, and, for extra shock absorption and non-slipability, a nice bit of car tyre.

That's amazing the rubber I mean, the nails look a little far up to me but I'm guessing they let more of the hoof grow.

Yes. A little more hoof at the front to compensate for the "Heel" at the back. Well spotted Ralph.

did you see any horses in the polish villages you passed tom? as fields are generally not fenced and they don't like to tie the horses up they hobble them and just let them stroll around where they like eating what they like knowing they won't go far

Yes I did as it happens gat. I also noticed that lots of homes had a single cow.
Gypsies often used to hobble their horses, but the RSPCA frown upon it now.

you would love to see what happens with the cows. you're right, most homes in the sticks will have one. in the morning they all go out to pasture and then when it's getting dark they all come home.
the thing is though that they do all this on their own. they all head back to the village and then one at a time turn off into their own home and head for the barn, noone tells them when to go home or which house is theirs, they just know. quite astonishing to watch

We never used foot-up hobbles like this.
But imo, there's nothing wrong with comfortable hobbles like this.

we used to watch the cows come home from our flat in ukraine, there was a house just opposite where we lived and if their cow was late the old grandma would stand outside tapping her watch and tutting at it
