Listen to this. Let me know what you think.

I hope the lack of comment is because no one listened rather than because no one liked it.

Starts at 1:16, (after the end of the Archers).

I dud view those photos, and loved them, very nostalgic, though they looked earlier than 1965 to me.

Whatever happened to proper prams? Silver Cross were the pram nuts.

Silvercross still going strong. Only about 1000 notes for the old skool one.

Funny how time and 18 stone put a different slant on stuff.

When I was a teenager, and a practicing Mod, to boot, our town was over run by skinheads, and the very notion used to scare me to death after some good old early 80s scuffles/stand offs/chases.

Looking at those kids and it just shows, that's all they/we all were.......bar th odd sad 30 year old that refused to grow up, of course.

Early days for the training Tom

Put dog on lead, sit her in front of me

Offer cut off broom stick

She turns her head to side, walks to the end of the distance allowed by the lead, and puts her head under her bed

Move bed to a safe distance, try again

She lies down, puts her head under the rug on top of the parquet floor

Move to a place with no rug, no bed, nothing to hide under

Offer stick

She raises eyebrow, turns head to one side

Hold head and open mouth, insert stick

Repeat a lot

Baby steps.

Today though she held stick in mouth, got a lot of fuss and a lot more fuss when she dropped it sort of on command

Fantastic character this dog, but determined to be the boss...

Great work Rich!

Don't teach the 'Drop' part until she's totally solid on the 'Hold', it's too confusing. Just get her to hold it until you go in to fuss mode, that's a complete 'set' as it were.

You can repeat if you like, but consider the first exorcise complete in and of itself. You asked her to hold it, she held it, you fussed her. End of.

Whether she holds on to it or drops it afterwards is irrelevant at this point. We are teaching her to hold on command.

Now please don't take this the wrong way, but you make owning a dog sound less like a fun way of having a companion and more like running the boot camp from Full Metal Jacket:

It's not all bossing them about and programming their tiny minds is it?

Lol.Of course I won't take it the wrong way.

I did say though, if you don't enjoy training, then don't attempt it. It should be fun for both dog and owner.

It has nothing at all to do with bossing them about, it's about making them want to do what you tell them to do, which is programming their minds I suppose, but that's the way dogs are built. They are pack animals and they want to have a leader.

Would you like a dog that shits on the carpet, snatches food from the table, chases bicycles and bites visitors? Of course not.

Most people start to modify that sort of behavior while their dog is still a puppy, usually they do it subconsciously, by taking him outdoors when he looks like he wants a crap, or telling him off when he takes food that he shouldn't.

This was in Rajasthan somewhere near Jaipur. I can't remember the exact details because I was suffering from sensory overload.

I was moving along quietly, trying to get a snap of an egret that I kept catching a glimpse of as it worked it's way along the shore of this lake when a different photograph entirely just sort of composed itself before my eyes. All I did was press the button.

I think I might have the same pic minus a full lake

Do you really? Try to dig it out and let's have a look.

Found it  Smiley

Wow! That's amazing. Well spotted too.

Am watching "Earthflight" featuring migrating cranes flying across India, and they just flew over that place, think it was called "Lake Palace".

Tom,

I remember a photo of The Duke of Devonshire sat next to you in your caravan some years back, & also you told the story of the "super-handyman" who worked on the Chatsworth Estate I seem to recall.

Did you ever meet "Debo", The Duchess of Devonshire?
