Did anyone watch the first episode of Portrait Artist 2014 introduced by Frank Skinner on Sky?
Innnit good?
By the way, does anyone think frank is looking a bit peculiar these days?

Others, (like controlling your heating at home while dancing with a kipper or whatever it is), I can just turn down and ignore, but I always end up shouting at the telly all the way through this one.
Funny reading this, in my whole life, literally the only ad on Radio that I
have
to turn down until its safe to turn the volume up again
Which one, Hive or Gladstone Brooks?
Hive - just watched Gladstone Brookes, doesn't really bother me I'm afraid :-)
Great pics from yesterday by the way, must be one of those moments where you can't avoid puffing the chest out and feeling rightly proud.. of yourselves and the veterans.

Glad to see official recognition that the Gypsies made sacrifices, just like everyone else.

Yep, pretty amazing though for you and your wife to become a walking embodiment of this at a major event - perhaps it's just down to good looks

I think you've been looking at the wrong pictures. (I'm the short, fat, balding one in the middle)

Yes I did, I love it.
Skinner on The One Show right now, seems ok to me.
Incidentally Earlier this year I came across a Stoke on Trent artist who I hadn't heard. I found out he had written an autobiography, Arthur Berry "Three and Sevenpence Halfpenny Man". I bought it on kindle for about £3. I loved it as it talked of places I knew well, but from a different era. Then I found out an art studio in Burslem had an exhibition of his work. I went along and came away with an original piece of his work. Don't you love finding new things out, especially about where you grew up.
The Painting is called The Nightwatchman. Do you remember them Tom? Sat in their hut in all weathers often with a brazier glowing.

What a great story! Isn't nostalgia wonderful?
We once had a winter camp behind a firm that built dropside bodies for lorries, they had a night watchman. The smell of his frying sausages and bacon used to drive us kids mad.

Bugger! I've just discovered Ernest Hemingway.
As if I haven't got enough things to distract me.
I can't decide which is more fascinating, reading what he wrote, or reading what was written about him.

I'll tell you what, isn't it amazing how quickly it gets light once it starts, and isn't it amazing that in the short time that it's been away, that same sun has shone on everyone else in the world.
PS- Do rhetorical questions need question marks?

Is it just me, or is everyone fascinated to hear about the weaknesses and failures of others, especially if it's someone you know, or know of?
It's not that I don't sympathise because I really do, but I'm fascinated all the same. Perhaps it just makes me feel better about my own shortcomings.
If anyone starts a thread about their own bad behaviour, drunkenness, infidelity, criminality, degenism etc, it always gets loads of hits & replies.

I'm going for my theory test on Thursday and I haven't done any swotting. Can anyone tell me what to expect?
4 separate tests you have to take to get a motorcycle license.
CBT
Theory
Mod # 1 - High speed / low speed maneuvers / emergency stop / bike handling etc. (FFS. Try spelling maneuvers without googling)
Mod # 2 - On road followed by examiner.
Quite right too.

Cheers Rod.
There was like a one month waiting list for all my local centers, so I booked mine in Birmingham. They only had the one date and time available though, so I'm guessing it was a cancellation.
