Why are the words 'The Color' part of the film title The Color Purple?
What else can purple be?
Erm. Isn't purple an adjective here describing the noun color? Or did I get whoooshed? Yes, but if I asked you what color the sky was, you wouldn't say, "It is the color blue".

I suppose it could have been called "Purple Stuff" or "Purple Things" I believe there is a line in the book about God being pissed every time you walk past the colour purple. Main character realises that she never sees these "purple" things and this drives her to change her life. Purple obviously has a double meaning as its used to describe God's beauty and yet also is the colour of violence that weaves its way through the book. Have always thought its a brilliant title and a fantastic book.

Alun is Welsh. Ah. My condolences. Is this the UKIP thread all of a sudden? The colour xenophobia I'm too used to Twitter, my brevity must have come across too aggressively. What I meant was you seemed to be placing the emphasis on the wrong word, unless I've got it all confused. As your more lyrical interlocutor earlier said it was about the type of colour. So it wasn't that purple was a colour, but that the specific colour purple was emotive and resonant. It was about the type of colour not the type of purple Again, I've probably been whooshed here without realising,,,,

Also I assume bearing in mind the subject of the book the word "color" was supposed to have some kind of resonance too
