Pied wagtail?

No.

It's a bird I believe you are quite familiar with.

Along with the 'Things I learned today' entries, I might start a 'Things that broke today' section.

Hen bullfinch?

No. A much more common species.

No. A much more common species.

It's too mangled and the angle is too poor. Even if I get it right I would just be guessing.

Things that broke today.

Stepped into the shower smornin, turned the knob, no water from shower head, lots of water from beneath shower box.

Stripped cover off, found water was coming from this overflow nipple.

Examined overflow nipple for a long time, couldn't work out why it hadn't leaked before.

Googled 'electric shower, exploded view and tracked my nipple down.

Apparently it's not a nipple, it's a pressure release valve. It is a should have a little ball inside it.

Found a repair kit on Amazon (packs of 6, just in case you have to repair 6 showers)

Off to see if I can get one off the shelf. Wish me luck...

Couldn't find one in store so it was wait three days for a £7 repair kit consisting of 6 tiny balls and 6 tiny washers (I only needed one of each) or sign up to Amazon Prime (£7.99 per month for delivery tomorrow.

Googled to find where the factory that makes the shower is and found out it's only in Nuneaton which is like ~ 8 miles from me.

Rang them up and got a secretary who told me that they had no parts dept or trade counter, they just did manufacturing but they could get someone out this week to do me a repair..

Drove to the factory anyway, skulked round the back until someone came out for a fag, called him over to the fence and showed him my valve and a fiver.

He popped back inside, came out with my valve and flatly refused to take my fiver. I tried to insist but he said, "Sorry, I can't, I'm the manager"

Still, It's taken me until 3:30pm to get back to where I was before I got out of bed this morning.

Members on the public yes, but I can't understand how railway workers manage to get hit by a train.

It is of course a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to their families but could there possibly be anyone else to blame but themselves?

I don't really have the knowledge to speculate, but could they have been in a situation where they were on the line and couldn't move off it and if so could a train come that wasn't supposed to?
