This case doesn't even bear thinking about, especially if it gets overturned.

I wonder if Chauvin could elect to be tried by a judge instead of a jury considering how difficult it will be to find people who haven't been prejudiced by the video?

I've just stumbled across this.

I wonder why it only lasted one day?

Oh my, what days....

I would like to play the £100 and the £150 at Sheffield this week but is there any value there? On the - side they are both re-buys and have relatively short clocks/starting chips, not really my favourite combo, add to this the fact that I have to arrive really early to stand any chance of getting a seat (no one can buy you in)

Good call by Tighty, too;

I sense a thread that might run and run!

And where does this woman in her 30s, who was arrested in Kent on suspicion of assisting an offender fit in?

She is the suspect's wife.  Feel sorry for their two kids, how do they begin to process the news.  It isn't like something that would be easy to keep from them, particularly as they took their mpther away too.  Their kids are close to the age of mine.
Going to be awful for the kids.

My Dad taught at the school attended by the kids of a police inspector found guilty of multiple rapes (mostly while on duty). Thankfully it was a small village primary and they managed to keep the kids from much bullying over it during the case, pretty sure they moved away after he was found guilty.

Horrible.

Was reading this morning about a guy suing Hertz car rentals, he was accused of a murder in 2011 and claimed he was renting a car at the airport. Hertz refused to produce a receipt and he was found guilty in 2016. His lawyers kept at Hertz and in 2018 they 'found' the receipt, which led to his freedom. Hertz claim the 'technology' wasn't good enough to find the receipt till 2018.

Does beg questions:
Police didn't investigate the car rental claim, why not?
Were there no cameras at the airport?
How can repeat subpoenas not get a better reaction from a company?
How much should they have to compensate him?

The compensation issue is a difficult one because the people at fault don't pay, it usually just means there will be a big dollop of cash missing from the budget.

Same with medical negligence cases.

BTW- I think I have had a poker epiphany.

People are always putting bad beats on me, I on the other hand, very rarely bad beat anyone. I almost always get it in good.

The problem with that is I don't always get the cards to get it in good, which means I am often managing a short-stack, which in turn means a late cashless exit or a min-cash.

I need to get it in lighter, If the bastards don't fold (Which they might) I could still bad beat em. This way I can either crash out early or have a big stack to twat em with in the later stages.

@ Barry Carter - If you fancy a collaboration there is more epiphing where that came from.

In this case it's the Car company being sued though.

It also helped that this was a pretty young woman going missing in London - the media is chock full of pretty young women who live in London, which immediately gives it a ‘that could have been me’ vibe.

Yes to all the comments from you, Jon, Doobs. As Jon said, more milage from a case like this in potentially changing behaviours that reduce the fear factor for women even though this kind of event is pretty rare, as i think doobs said.

Be nice for the desperate situation around domestic abuse to get a similar boost in the consciousness.

What do we think of this compensation payment, who will ultimately bear the cost and what if any effect will it have on the Chauvin trial?

The city of Minneapolis has reached a $27m (£19m) settlement with the family of George Floyd, the unarmed US black man whose death last May sparked protests worldwide.

Mr Floyd's death after being trapped under the knee of former Derek Chauvin was captured on camera.

Lawyers for the family said the footage created "undeniable demand for justice and change".

Jury selection for Mr Chauvin's murder trial is currently under way.

Six out of 12 jurors have been selected for hearings beginning on 29 March.

The Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously to approve the pre-trial settlement, the largest ever awarded in the state of Minnesota.

"That the largest pre-trial settlement in a wrongful death case ever would be for the life of a black man sends a powerful message that black lives do matter and police brutality against people of colour must end," said Floyd family attorney Ben Crump.

I wonder how long it took to decide on the wording of this line?

They were so careful not to libel themselves they forgot to say what he formally was.
