Think its a good signing, even better if tiote leaves for 8m and doesnt do a cisse.

Desperate for a striker, for the love of god not bendtner. Surprised at the prices quoting for berahino to come, cant see it tbh.

Club finally doing what they promised, desperate to keep the gravy train on the tracks.

I think he's a very talented player and was surprised he's still only 23.
I do think there is more to come from him IF his attitude is right.
£12m could look very cheap in a couple of years once the increased TV money comes in imo.

Lol. Sending everyone to the chip shop.

Whilst he was at the toon he was in the casino i worked at most nights.

I specifically remember one night he was in was the night before Newcastle lost 3-0 to Everton or Spurs, was a tuesday night. At 3am he was eating a double cheese burger and chips and was sinking Vodka Lemonades. There was also a very strong rumour he was bonking one of the dealers for a bit of cash on the side. It must have been a decent amount of cash as well because her boyfriend didnt seem to mind.

Anyways, always seemed like a nice enough lad.

Shelvey is a breath of fresh air, always looking for the positive pass. If plays anything like that he will have a much happier time at the toon then he has at previous clubs(altho not for a few games) Mitrovic should really have made it much less of a sweat then it was. First half was great, then as per made it hard for themselves but much better and didnt throw it away, which is a nice change.

A good post I think from a Toon supporter on a Fantasy site I frequent.
Fair comment?

"I actually think we're nearly a good side, a lot of the pitch good enough for top 10, just that there's glaring holes in the team that pulls us down to relegation candidates (namely we're very weak at CB, LB and don't really have a striker who can score right now - fundamental stuff, but only 3-4 players short imo). Wijnaldum, Sissoko, Janmaat, Shelvey, Krul are all really quality players, Perez, Mbemba & Mitro have the potential to be quality players, and Colback is reasonable as a hard working ball winner.

I don't think Ashley/Charnley are genuinely not trying to do the best they can, it's just they have a complete lack of understanding of football and the fact that running a business is different to running a football club. The transfer policy of essentially only buying 'good value' young players with potential is completely stupid - essentially ruling out signing anyone over 25 - it completely ignoring the absolutely imperative factor of PL experience. It's all well and good buying good value young players with potential as part of your policy, but those players are not going to learn anything/improve much unless they're playing and training with experienced players and they're not going to improve the team right now. They also need gametime to improve, but if they're not good enough right now they're not going to get that. We've spent 25m odd on Cabella/Thauvin because they were seen as having better sell on value than more experienced players but they weren't good enough to get enough gametime right now so haven't progressed. If we'd just spend that on proven players we'd be far higher in the table. We haven't in the past addressed the positions that need addressing - we've just concentrated on 'value' - before this season we had the same pool of CBs (Colo/Williamson/Saylor) that we had in the Championship yet we found 7m to spend on Riviere!!

The other ridiculous transfer policy is not buying a replacement before a player is sold. We've finally replace Cabaye with Shelvey now, only 2 years after he left as all the replacements we looked at at the time weren't 'value'. Well, however much we would have saved by not overspending on the right player 2 years ago we have lost fourfold in lost league position income since. We still haven't replaced Remy. We still haven't replaced Santon. If we'd have just bought a left winger that was good enough for the PL a few years ago we wouldn't have had to waste 25m on Cabella/Thauvin and now apparently spend another 12m on Townsend. It's a false economy. If we get Townsend we'll have spent 35-40m just on left wingers in the last 3 years - it's ridiculous.

The same would be true of Mitrovic - we'd be doing far better with a proven goalscorer, someone like Austin say, though luckily for Mitro he's manage to get lots of gametime unlike Cabella/Thauvin due to lack of other options and is actually improving as a result- but we've payed the price in league position in the mean time. If we hadn't wasted so much money on the wrong things in the past we should easily be finishing around 10-11th in the table and it's something like 1.4m per place - money on potential only is money down the drain.

At least this season McClaren has been added to the football board and you can see the difference immediately - we've actually spend good money on players that are good enough for the team right now (Wijnaldum, Shelvey, Mbemba) and for positions we actually need. The budget options with 'potential' like Riviere/Gouffran/Marveaux/Obertan/Anita and the players with potential but are not there yet like Cabella/Thauvin have just wasted spots in the squad and lots of money."

I disagree about ashley and co being clueless. They are just complacent when we are mid table, unwilling to pay for the next level, so happy to be a midtable team. He knows how much it cost us to be relegated, so relegation causes a reaction. Newcastle fans need to understand that making money is winning to mike ashley.

So the problem we have is that theres only investment when we struggle, meaning we have to suffer if we want investment. The problem then is that as soon as said investment has the desired effect, itll stop imo.

Im unconcerned with the part of the poor signings we have made. Loads of club where they are congratulated for their signings have signed some utter dross, necessary to get players of quality, especially for a club where established quality players arent interested. The big problem is highlighted, graham carr isnt building us a team with signings, merely adding individuals regardless of position who fit his mould and as said the clubs policy. Its not been made clear whether they disagree with fans as to what we need (lb, cb, cf as suggested), or whether scouting has put up players we have failed to get/ havent lived up to expectation. I have no idea why we are interested in townsend, he doesnt fit the style, and we havent given similar players to him a real shot in the team.

Mcclaren says he wants an english core, and seems keen to bring in england int, or fringe players which tbh, suggests he doesnt really have any indepth knowledge of players worth investing in, only players hes seen on tele lol. Id like to see us sign english. Go get us an english LB and CB.

Is captain Coloccini strong enough to lead Newcastle?

His ex-coach has his doubts http://bbc.in/1RF5kox
