This water debate has been most helpful, thanks.

I have been below par for a week or so now, not ill as such, but with flu symptoms - aching limbs, headaches, lethargy, always tired, but without the cold, cough or "chest".

My current daily fluid intake is.....

1 or 2 x Lattes

1 Cup-a-Soup

1 x cup of tea in the evening.

Plus a huge bowl of fruit every day, such as pineapple, grapes etc, which must contain mostly water.

Looks like I better start getting some water down me. I assume "sparkling" is OK? Also the branded drinks which contain a dash of fruit flavouring, such as the Tesco Fruit Flavoured sparkling water brand, which has a minimal calorie penalty would be OK, yes? Don't think I could drink much "natural water" to be honest.

I also have the world's smallest bladder these days, & already have to get up 2 or 3 times every night for a jimmy, so that looks like getting worse.

Being old proper sucks.

As long as it's fluid it doesn't matter quite so much what form it takes.

The problem with those waters with a dash of fruit is that they are often artificially flavoured and can contain a lot of sugar.

I can cope with that, I would allow for it in my daily ration.

Yep - absolutely fine.  I drink a lot of water, but add some 'non-added sugar' cordial to it as well.  Sparkling is fine, and I like the taste of it over still water.

Looking at what you drink and eat, I'd guess that you aren't getting enough water at the moment.  Try and up your daily intake over a week or so and you should notice a difference. If you're on the go, maybe carry a bottle of whatever with you all the time that you can take sips from when you need to.

i have a fairly weak affair anyway Smiley

another question if i may best type of porridge oats?

I have been this week eating 100% wholegrain rolled oats as according to a quick google they seemed best health wise

Have i got this right or wrong? Must say i am not enjoying them a great deal but they do seem to keep me filled up well

They sound good to me.  Not a huge fan of porridge, but it's great fuel and so I'm trying to eat more of it.  Tastes better with loads of sugar on it though Cheesy

Fwiw I used to drink very little water, and a lot of fizzy drink.

I am on 3 litres a day of water and very diluted low sugar squash and my headaches are far fewer

At the weekend, I was back on pints of diet coke when working, all Monday=big headache

Is that more than 3 pints?

If so, jeez.

There's not going to be much difference between any different types of oats, the only way you can go wrong with them is by what you add to make them more palatable. Obviously if you make your porridge with lots of cream and then add lots of sugar and then put some jam on the top - it stops being quite so healthy Cheesy

I add sugar, but that's because I use the porridge for energy before a run and the sugar gives some instant quick-burn carbs, followed by the slow-release good carbs in the porridge.

Instead of sugar, you could try sweetner, or just a small amount of sugar or even honey?  Maybe some fruit or something

So there I was, dieting away nicely. I lost a stone in the first month or so, everyone was saying how well I was doing...

Then I got stuck, and didn't lose anything for a couple of weeks, so I decided it was time to make a really big effort. Then, a strange thing happened.

One afternoon about 10 days or so ago, I suddenly just sort of found myself in the kitchen eating cheese on toast. I couldn't tell you how it came about, I have no recollection of deciding to do it, it was as if I was being controlled by some outside force.

After the cheese on toast I ate a whole packet of custard creams, a microwave cottage pie, a bag of roast chicken flavour crisps and a whole bar of dark chocolate.

In the back of my mind I knew it was wrong but I didn't care about the consequences, I was just totally out of control.

Eventually I was so full I felt physically sick.

When I thought about it afterwards, it was like it wasn't really me that did it but some strange evil alter ego that I had no control over. What a strange episode.

Anyway, I shrugged it off and went back to dieting properly.

A couple of days later, while I was playing the cash game at DTD, it happened again. I saw someone eating a tuna melt and before I knew it I was asking the valet to bring me one. When it came I realised that I hadn't ordered a drink so I asked for a diet coke.

By the time she came back with the coke I'd eaten the tuna melt, so I ordered a full English breakfast, (With an extra egg)

After that I had a bowl of chips (I kid you not) and an enormous piece of chocolate fudge cake with ice cream.

Last night, after dieting properly for several days, it happened again and I ate about £30 worth of stuff from the DTD menu.

I have no Idea what's causing it, I just seem to be totally driven by a sense of rebellion.

Writing it down, it seems kind of comical, but I mean WTF? Have I gone loopy or something?

I read a fantastic article on this recent about giving up (anything), and how just before you break the cycle, you are programmed to have "one last go" of whatever, with food its obviously a massive binge. Avoiding this pre programmed cycle is the key (before anyone goes 2+2 = 2324552498, the book was nothing to do with addiction or anything, it was called, "you are not as clever as you think you are" and it was one of the last chapters) - my comments here are paraphrasing obv

So - MR Dog - you are programmed to do this.

Interestingly, the "solution" was in reward - a path which I know Simon Galloway follows with great success. So along your journey of giving up something, reward yourself at predetermined milestones! This helps prevent this "final blow out" matter

Dont know if this help
