What does May attempting to stop a second indyref entail? Would she whip Tory MPs to vote against it in the Commons?

I didn't follow politics at all before the last indyref, why did the coalition government pass the bill allowing it to happen?

Hollyroods hand seems weak since the tories know (knew?) that they can win a GE with no Scottish support so they aren't losing any votes by blocking it and a yes vote is obv huge ballache in terms of defence, energy etc.

Was it a similar situation to the EU ref where the 'wrong' answer in westminsters view was polling at under 35% so they were happy to give the SNP/Vote Leave a spin confident that they couldn't lose?

Not sure it was as cynical as the eu ref. Like to think it was just a logical.extension of the whole devolution thing

and we are not sure what Unionist EU leavers are going argue on it, given it was identified as a big risk by "project fear"

They will (correctly) point out that it is completely insane to make a decision until the UK/EU trade relationship is settled.

The SNP will still be unable to answer the questions about currency, financial services, huge deficit etc and the new question about re-joining/staying in the EU creating a hard border will be added to that.

They won't win and very probably terminally damage any future prospect of independence.

The state of UK politics part one.

Jeremy Corbyn today said that a figure of £70bn for the total cost in lost revenue from upcoming Tory tax cuts was not a figure that he recognised. The figure came from his own shadow business secretary on the Andrew Marr show yesterday.

The state of UK politics part two.

On Sky News yesterday Liam Fox denied sending a tweet about Brexit despite the fact it was up on the big screen behind him.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/13/liam-fox-denies-sending-controversial-tweet-sitting-front/

And yet over half of Scots still want to be run by these clowns.

As much as I'd like corbyn to stay, it really does boggle the mind how he is managing to stay in the hot seat....

The SNP's entire point is to keep holding independence referendums until they win one. That's why Sturgeon's "threats" in the past to hold a referendum is laughable- it's like a dog threatening to pee on a lamppost, they're going to do it anyway.

Any truth in Sturgeon doing this to assist the #saveblonde campaign?  Must be guaranteed a few thousand posts in a good indy ref thread!

Yes, Liam Fox is a prat. All the parties have them, God knows why he's in the position he holds.

May needs to reinforce her leadership and give the likes of Fox, Johnson and Davies a clear line and expect them to stick to it.

Wee Willie Rennie an insignificant cock and Patrick Harvie.

Clearly these polls are being carried out in Tory Edinburgh.

So what was the point of the lords spending all that time discussing it and coming up with amendments then?

Just to give a few of the remainers a little poke and get a bit of bleating going again when it got through anyway
