Strong statement from some Lancashire Labour leaders out who say they were 'bullied' into Tier 3 and not sure it will work.

When they argued the point with No 10 they were told that they would be put in anyway with no cash support, so it was effectively a fait accompli to accept the deal

You have to respect the Lancet and its proponents, however there is no evidence of re-infection or widespread death in the young. Almost feels it was written by Sky News

Quite a good part of this refers to all the things we don't know and it's pretty obvious that there's a lot we don't know still.

Thought it was interesting that they used a term like the IFR being 'several fold' that of seasonal flu.

Wonder how many Governments would have launched into doomsday mode if the initial prognosis was several fold seasonal flu.

Surprising to me that we continue to take ridiculous measures for something  where the lethality is just several fold seasonal flu. Not a surprise that people equate it to a very bad flu year.

Yes but a bad flu year fully stretches the NHS

The issue is healthcare capacity. We have to suppress the spread of the virus to stop hospitals becoming full of COVID patients and leaving little room for anything else. There aren't enough doctors and nurses in this country to staff up the Nightingale hospitals either.

One of the disastrous long term effects of the first wave will be all the cancer appointments and routine stuff that stopped people being diagnosed in good time.

Naturally need to keep working on getting people to change their behaviours to reduce the impact. Maybe too far gone in a country that infantilises people to the extent we do but still worth a shot at a combination of leadership and education rather than the nonsensical efforts at using the big stick.

That's a good read I think. I might raise an eyebrow at some of his attempts at solid conclusions from what we know so far but the final summary regarding the failure to project clarity and some kind of mission around this crisis is really close to how I feel and is very well put imo.

Ireland's government has agreed to return the country to the highest level of coronavirus restrictions for six weeks from midnight on Wednesday. So Irish politicians’ defiance of scientific advisers last 10 days. Let’s see how long Mr Johnson holds put.
