Sean have you noticed much difference in the tips given to the dealers since the changes and how do they compare to when you were doing the job?
More tips on 50/1, less tips on 1/2+ (I'm sure if they capped at £8 that would soon change.)
Since I worked? Not even comparable. When I started, tips were £6/hr~. Didn't have to use bankcard ever, just live out of your tip packet. Those were the days.
I think the single biggest contributing factor to the low tip rate is that Jason Herbert hasn't binked back to back deepstack events.

Lol, I just come from a time when tipping was a given. And back then winning was a given too. Always the Ukipt tho
I only asked because someone I know won a hefty sum on a tourney and it never even occured to him to leave a tip. Then the other night in a DC game hardly anyone was tipping when in times gone by it was expected that you would give a tip virtually every hand you've won. One of the guys said to me they now tip at the end of they've made a profit

That's what I do. I don't think that's too bad. If I had a job, I'd just tip anyway, but it's harder to tip frequently when it's your source of income. Not knowing you can tip, though, there's something wrong with that.

Imo Jason that's the way it should be. Why should you tip every hand if the bottom line says your doing chunks?

I don't knock how people tip but the dealers defo get less tips with the "on the way home" tip. It seems more and more common and Tbf it's a whole lot better than those that don't tip at all. Basic wage for dealers is pretty poor I would imagine and even at Dtd I see a massive difference in the standard of the blow ins to the regular Dtd staff. This was not the case a few years ago and you could not tell blow ins from staff. I played a £150 and a £50 sat on the same day a couple of weeks back and the dealing was not to the usual high standard either. Staff turnover seems quite high and I thought this may have something to less tips making the job less attractive.

Why did you think A1033 was a good hand to make that move with? Seems pretty terrible given what you mentioned about how the game plays and your intentions going into it.
Nice win though but pls don't report hands lost vs golden. Shoulder barge stories much welcomed though.

RE: tips
Last week I did 30.5 hours and received £36 this Monday for my efforts.
Full time staff are on minimum wage, I believe it's currently around £6.08/hr, with penny increases if you can deal Omaha or DC or are a Supervisor Assistant (increasing per proficiency). We are contracted for 0 hours and work as per rota, they send us home when not needed, so we don't always get the hours we need and although it's nice to have a night off, I feel the pain the next month when I can't afford to get to and from work and eat for the whole month and pay the rent. Other months it's super busy like the Monte Carlo where I did 13 days with no gaps. But the more hours everyone does, the less the tips are. But that week I got about £150 in tips, it was HUGE for keeping me afloat. In those months where the pay packet's one or two hundred quid lighter than I need it to be, the tips are of huge huge help. I remember in December I was living off my tips, and this month I'm into my rent money this month and that £36 has slowed the drain. I've got to borrow from the Bank of Mum to get me out of this one and get a dreadful Vanquis card. But I'm not complaining! It's an easy job, we get a lot of breaks, work is very very flexible and the managers keep the standards high and let you know when you slip up but they are forgiving. I need this job, I am grateful for it. DTD has massive poker industry prestige, and the more I stick it out, the more it's going to open a lot of London and American doors for me in future. Sometimes one has to take the rough with the smooth!
Glad to be of service once again Sean with the KJ vs 87!

mean this in the nicest way possible, but if the job is like that surely its time to start looking for a new one? if youre dealing around the world and got contracts at ept etc then cool, if you're a student and making some pocket money dealing what you cant afford to play then cool, but seems like from a full time perspective local dealing definitely isn't a viable option for most.

Dw about it mate, I'm a classic victim of putting my foot in my mouth or saying the wrong thing. Your heart's in the right place and that's what matters.

All in good time. I look at this job as a springboard. You need experience to deal in places with better pay or which need you to be able to deal Omaha and other games or to deal in EPTs or WSOPs or places in America. Just like in poker, the long game is more important.
