SNP got 1.48m votes and 56 MPs

UKIP 3.77m and 1 MP

Under a second preference type of PR, that would have translated to about 85 UKIP MPs

whilst i expect electoral reform to be a big issue, its not as big an issue as the union imo

with con in majority there is no realistic prospect of FPTP changing

but there is a realistic prospect of fiscal autonomy for scotland, home rule etc

it has also to said that ukip was anti-change in the 2011 referendum and is now pro-change now that it suits them

I think it was people in England not wanting to be dictated to. Once people realised that they could have a government that consisted of SNP members who want to leave the UK they did what they had to do to prevent it. Nicola Sturgeon's statement that they would do whatever it took to keep the Tories out backfired massively. Not such a sharp politician after all.

Was it Lab's tack to the left, Tory SNP fear campaign, or Ed M himself that sent Labour backwards?

I think Milliband was a big issue.
Big error by Labour making him leader. Almost unelectable, in my opinion.

I too think this was the biggest factor

It was George Osborne's strategy. You had to hold your nose a bit as the conservatives stoked up english nationalism but it 100% worked

the irony is that the SNP did so well that it was a large part of putting the tories in. they may get what they want shortly (cameron will offer them something big) but it did for labour as much as labour underperforming in the midlands and south did

The word on the street during the whole election was that a cons govt would suit the SNP. More resentment by Scots if they got in and more chance of another in/out referendum faster.

Farage loses by a couple thousand, in Thanet.

Is it 1 of 2 for the UKIP job, Tighty?

Have to agree , for Prime Minister you need some gravitas , he had very little.

Sometimes it's just staring you right in the face , you can argue all day long on policy , but
it's the man at the top , the way he projects himself , his image , how he is going to look
against other world leaders.

Superficial I know but that's the world we live in.

Imagine for a moment how you would feel if England had elected 500 MPs from a single party.

FTTP has, IMO, been shown to be not only inherently unfair, but also potentially dangerous.

Carswell is the only MP

Suzanne Evans is genuinely impressive. would be the candidate more likely to win them seats in 2020
