Anti-No Deal Bill tomorrow, if it passes, does 4 key things:

1. Stops No Deal Oct 31

2. Demands PM ask EU for a Brexit delay to Jan 31 2020 if no accord agreed at EU Council meeting Oct 17

3. If EU agrees extension, PM must accept

4. UK can leave with No Deal but only if MPs vote for it

Going to be a close vote. Up to 20 tory rebels the swing voter

Boris responded on his speech and then subsequently

does not want an election *but* will tomorrow table a motion under the fixed term parliaments act which will be triggered if the rebels win the vote, starting a process towards a potential general election

That vote would require a 2/3 majority to hold a gen election

Or

The PM said:

1) he would not request an extension from the EU in any circs.

2) he does not want an election.

Assuming parliament succeeds in legislating for extension this means either:

A) he will seek an election anyway

OR

B) The, the PM, will refuse to obey the law.

If Johnson really does refuse to go for an election AND he refuses to obey the law then in those circs the Commons will have little choice but to go nuclear and change the government. Even if it is corbyn and very outside shot a GNU

Boris will I think chance the election.

Johnson said he won't ask the EU for an A50 delay under any circumstances (unless I misheard).

So.

If Parliament votes for a delay tomorrow.
If Johnson calls a vote for an election without securing a delay
If HoC refuses the election as they want a delay first.

Then what?

Excellent   (and very long) article from Sir Ivan Rogers on the realities of a no-deal Brexit.  An expert in the true sense and probably one of the most knowledgeable and experienced in all matters EU.

https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2019/09/ivan-rogers-the-realities-of-a-no-deal-brexit/

I've read some of his articles and watched him speak before - though I'm not knowledgeable enough to know for sure, this seems like another rational and good piece - it's a pity that voices like these don't get more of a hearing. Instead the empty vessel voices we hear tend to be those that play well to a convinced remain audience but harden the resolve of those that want to leave and (now) get things done at all costs (no-deal).

Presumably if 3 happens then they will have to reach some compromise of delay and election

I probably should have put a smiley at the end of that post.

To be honest, it’s all getting out of hand now. It was all jolly japes when the electorate waved two fingers at the prophets of doom and I remain convinced that getting out of the EU ahead of the crowd is a worthwhile move, but the lengths that the remain side have gone to has reduced us to a situation where the PM is apparently contemplating ignoring an Act of Parliament passed under his tenure.
