My old man has been rough for a couple months, and tried getting a procedure done privately last week when the NHS said it would be a 3 week wait. They couldn't even do that, as been instructed at the private clinic down here to stop taking cases.

Then it got really bad on Friday, so he called Dr and they too him off in ambo. Done a lot of scans/biopsies and looks like he has ulcerative colitis. Was in with one other bloke in a 6 bay room, and this other bloke develops a fever, so now the old man is in isolation until this other blokes tests come back. Couldn't make it up, he's not even allowed to use the showers, and has to wash in his room etc. He's loving the oromorph, though Smiley

Can't beat a bit of Sister Morphine to take the pain away, hope he's back to his best soon.

Never tried any, though we did send a big bottle of that oromorph/oramoprh? back to the hospital when my gran passed, as she was on it for a few months. Maybe I should have had a go on that, lol.

He should be fine, sounded ok earlier, and as everyone working from home for the forseeable, that will help, too Smiley

I dislocated my week old hip replacement last year, Sister Morphine was a great relief.

If anyone wants cheering up, this article starts well with the headline, but the entire thing reads like a comedy script.  If it had been posted two days later, it would have looked too obvious as an April Fool spoof.

That is brilliant , so many one liners in a story.

Had me laughing out loud for ages .

Still chuckling away to myself now.

“ At this point I ran out of magnets “

That really got me giggling .

Thanks for posting !

With significant outbreaks in South Korea (who knows what’s happening in the North?), Iran and now Italy, it seems likely that Covid19 will achieve official pandemic status in the very near future.

From everything I’ve read, it seems the fatalities are almost exclusively among the elderly, and in particular those with pre-existing health conditions. Symptoms for those under aged 45 are relatively mild. However, if there is a major infection rate here in the UK, the consequences will be yet more draining of already stretched NHS resources. So, if you’re not a victim of Covid, but in need of an NHS bed for an equally or more serious condition, you could be in trouble.

As for travel to the Far East, I think I’d make use of my travel insurance and cancel it until we’re on the other side of this.

I have trips booked to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam leaving on March 13th. I doubt the insurance would shell out unless the Government advise against travel.

So, in the end, RED decided sensibly to shelve his travel plans.

However, 2 weeks later, on 7th March, a Mr Nile Zahran and his partner flew to Indonesia for their holiday. They’re now struggling to get back to the UK, saying:

“We want to get home. But we are relying on the government and we are starting to feel a bit abandoned,” he said.

“The ambassador in Jakarta said that they prioritise this, to get British people in Bali home, but we’re not seeing it. I know it’s going to take time and we’re patient. Every day that goes by…. we’re not seeing progress.”

What really gets my goat is the “feel a bit abandoned” bs. Yet another example of people refusing to accept responsibility for their own stupid decisions, and expecting the Government to get them out the shit. And then the media doesn’t ask them the obvious question - ‘why, when it was clear that there would be a pandemic, did you decide to travel?’ - allowing the Government to look uncaring.

The 15:08 update appears to confirm that they are going to manipulate our figures in a way to ensure we can’t assess success/failure of government inaction and that we can’t be compared in a meaningful way to other nations. Not exactly helpful in tackling the problem.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-52044452

The fuller story, if accurate on PM with Super Evan, is that yesterday's numbers covered 12 hours with the intention of transitioning to a regular report at 2pm each day for deaths to midnight the prior day. Today's numbers are expected to reflect 36 hours and from tomorrow a regular 24 hour number

So expect a big jump today - take an approx average for a 24 hour period or do what you like with the number and then from tomorrow should be a regular thing.

Just been to B & Q click and collect, confirmed that tinfoil hats in very short supply currently

Thanks for the info. I’m aware I’m closer than I’ve ever been before to needing a tinfoil hat (and a cat in a tinfoil hat) on this. Let’s wait and see the next numbers.

New numbers are below.  Deaths up over 100 a day.  The reason for yesterday's result (based on 8 hours) was because the methodology changed.  You can put your tinfoil hat away and stand down.

Looks like we’re back to briefing Sky a very low number (assuming 23 hr period), with no word from the DHSC.

Yeah, I got that impression when I spoke to him earlier. Was checking which clients I needed to contact to rearrange appointments, and he was quite spaced out, lol.

Assuming manipulation of everything to make/preserve political capital and cling on to credibility is very safe ground to be on. As you now I work in public service, everything I’ve learnt from my professional experience tells me they are under political pressure with regard to this reporting. I know I’ve indulged or even encouraged the tin foil hat jokes but I’m about as far away from a conspiracy theorist as you can imagine.

Best wishes to your dad, I was recently a member of the Oramorph fan club as well. I was only in severe pain for about 48 hours, you get to the point where the morphine is all you can think about and your eyes can’t stop following the person who administers it, looking for some indication that they’re heading for the medicine cabinet. 🤞The quarantine is as short a possible and he’s well enough to leave soon.

Yes it is interesting, I assumed there was a lag between reports of number of deaths and them being officially reported and this confirmed it. It always seemed a bit odd that they could be quite so specific for that time frame - until they changed it they were reporting the number of deaths up to a period that ended 5 hours previously. It seemed extremely unlikely that they could get everything sorted in that actual time frame. Now they've extended the time frame it should be less of a lag but there's still a lot to do in that time.

It doesn't make it exactly clear how long that lag is but from what they say in that article it suggests maybe a day or two.

EDIT: it kind of reminds me about the story they've been talking about today when ministers have said number of tests means what capacity they have for testing rather than actual number of tests.
It obviously could just be an attempt at manipulation like Kush suggests, but given all this information is easily and freely available it does seem like it could also be poor communication skills as well.
