I've just started playing this week and it's quite good fun, a bit like a web based championship manager but for cricket.

Just wondered if I rope some blondes into playing and maybe we could run ourselves and unofficial league or cup.

I know, really is a poor state of affairs.

I should just point out a few things about signing up:
1) don't be put off by the waiting list - I was 14th in the queue and it just took a few hours to get in.
2) If you sign up in England the games are played at 10:30am, so you might want to choose another location if that's a bad time...

I had a rubbish starting squad too, now I've replaced most of them with bargain players  < £5k who have done quite well, although there don't seem to be as many of them about at the minute.

a cool 122 run win for 1st game inspired by late signing for 3000. took 3 wickets in 5 overs

I had a dreadful start - I was 4/2 in the second over - on a batting pitch!

Happily my opener and young trainee at #4 batted well (90 runs and motm) and put on 99 for the 3rd wicket, and everyone thereafter contributed - including some nice quickfire runs from number 6 and 7 in the last few overs to get me over 300 runs.

Which I needed - They got to 272-8, off their fifty with most of the wickets falling in the last 10 overs!

A nice 42 run victory in the end.

Came crashing down to earth with a 108 run defeat.After winning the toss bens 11 made 220 all out. i replied with 112. didnt help as i put a bowler in as a batter. never mind league more important :)

In my friendly my oppo batted first and racked up a formidable score of 384-2.

The attempt to chase down such a big total was always going to difficult, despite the heroic efforts of my fine team fell just 376 runs short. I was bowled out for 8 runs in 6.3 overs.

If it wasnt for a couple of my players would have had a similar score. wonderif we can beat the record for lowest combined scores in the nx game.     BRING IT ON

Disaster struck for me this week, when, upon receiving the free week trial of membership, I found out half my squad are ginger :(

Yes, League games on friday with cup/friendlies on sunday.

Internationals are midweek, with 3 day first class games coming soon.

You might have to wait a few hours for the confirmation - I think it's done manually.

Do u get a certain amount for transfer funds or do you have to sell first to get some ££££ ??

You start with £200k, and can go overdrawn upto £350k/

When gauging your income/outgoings you will receive £55k a week as a subsidy until the 3 day games kick in - this might not appear in your first week though.

I just managed to bok my own batsman when he was on 99 :(

my bunch of no hopers are playing their first game....currently 175/2  from 36   very happy so far

I lost the toss and oppo decided to bat, i got off to a good start when the oppo were 70/4 but they put a bit of a partnership together and got upto 127/4 but then my opening bowler came back on and has taken 3 quick wickets oppo currently 160/7 hopefully can restrict them to 180-200, mind you as this is my first game ive no idea what my batting is like probably be skittled out for 50 but we will see.

Pitch type will make a difference too - against a bowling side on a cracked pitch, for example, 200 would be a decent total.

I'm ticking along nicely, just wish my bowlers would remember how to take wickets in the first 30 overs.

I came back from being 4 for 2 last week to post a total of > 300, which I was happy about.

Just be aware that each batter prefers to bat in a certain place, i.e. some will do rubbish as openers but good in the middle order and vice versa so a bit of experimentation can get the best from them. Same thing with the aggression levels.

I've managed to restrict them to 110/3 after 25overs.  Req rate now 7.52.  Going nicely so far

Doomed 141/6 chasing 213 think a dip in the transfer market market might be in order, all that after my bowlers did well, never mind the fat lady aint singing yet she's just clearing her throat

Yep, it gets the same treatment as the league games. Will start at 10:30am.

If you play a team from another country at their ground it will start at a different time (whatever the usual time would be for their country).

After a shaky start at 42-3 a 4th wicket stand of 176 put me into a good position.
However losing 3 quick wickets now has me on 223-7 after 43 overs

He got dealt a superb player at the start (adri) and his new trainee Hollis (i found the guy but didn't need someone like that) is performing far better than expected too!

Remove those 2 and he soon gets in trouble.

I hit 344-2 (with my opener falling for 170 on the penultimate ball :( ) and another bongobok for 99  ;grr;.

My lot collapsed to 233 all out.

More batting practice required for the tail!

I think you're better off giving your batters more practice then trying to get the tail batting. If you can get 5 good batters and WK who can bat you should be ok. Set the tail to defensive/very defensive batting so they stick around longer.

Still learning this game.

So no one should arrange other friendlies from next week on otherwise we'll miss games and get behind.

Bowling first against a really, really bad side (have never logged in!), really wanted to bat and hit a big score - hence the flat pitch.

Alas i'm bowling first and it's 62-7.

Managed to win again yesterday.

Set 246 to win on a cracked pitch, my top order did a good job and i reached the target for the loss of only 2 wickets in 43.3 overs.
Have 20 points in my divison, but still only in 3rd place.  Top 2 teams look very good.

Have won todays friendly.
Put the opposition in on a green wicket, and soon had them in big trouble at 12-5.
They rallied to 103 all out, but i comfortably made the runs for the loss of 1 wicket.

Finally fell for 137 Well played that man but all in vain as was bowled out the last ball of my innings for 287 which resulted in a 27 run defeat never mind well payed chaps against a more experienced side

I thought 314 was a restriction considering it was an out and out batting pitch, I would have been a lot happier if it had been a lot closer to 350. It looked touch and go at some stages.

I'd set my opening bowlers to very attacking as an experiment, I'm not quite sure what to make of it though - one went for very few runs and got no wickets, the other got hit round the park but picked up 8 wickets on the way  ;carlocitrone;

I had another thumping win by 187 runs.  Think I have the makings of a decent side.

As there are 9, I propose we allow my friend to join to make up the numbers, I got him to join around the time I made this thread so it should all be pretty even.

Proposed format - 2 groups of 5, 4 points for win, 2 for tie, 0 for loss, NRR used to separate teams with equal points. Each group will be randomly drawn.

Top 2 from each group qualify for semis. 1st in group A v 2nd in Group B, 1st in Group B v 2nd in Group A. (Group winners get home game).

Games starting this Sunday using the weekly friendly slot.

Fixtures (1 is 1st out of hat, 2 is 2nd etc).

Think that's ok, teams sitting out each week (1 from each group) can play each other in a friendly for a laugh and so everyone will have a game each week.

Other options would be 3 groups of 3, but that only guarantees each person 2 games, instead of the 5 with the 2 groups.

Rules:
Team drawn at home to challenge the away team, pitch prepared to home teams choosing.

If no one disagrees, and we have no last minute entries tomorrow I will draw the names out of the hat and post here so we can all get our games sorted for next week.

Just finished off a low scoring game, hitting 153 for 4 to pass pokerdave's 152 all out. I think the scoreline flatters me a bit as a couple more wickets and it would have been down to the tail to perform.

How far ahead can you challenge ? Friendlies are on a sunday, so i would imagine you can challenge for the following sunday after your game.

Ball park figure for income from a home game at the start ? Not alot coz not enough members. Get a half decent side make some ground improvements obviously gate reciepts and members will increase

Nets take effect once a week, on a Monday around 11pm. How you use them is up to you, at the moment I have 2 players who keep the same nets every week and I'm using the remaining nets to round off some edges on my other players, changing them round every few weeks once i've got the player to the level I want.

How far ahead can you challenge ?

A week in advance, e.g. I can challenge now for next Sunday.

Ball park figure for income from a home game at the start ?

Around £30k I think, I've expanded my ground and got more members than you start with and get around £80k now.

In your experience is it better to transfer a side or coach what you got ?

Depends what your starting side is like, mine was rubbish, I have 2 left from my starting squad - the rest were fired as no one would buy them. Other people have got some great players to start with.

Yes, if you know what you're looking for. My openers today cost £7k (£1k and £6k), they put on a 187 for the 1st wicket and both average over 100 this season.

I forgot to mention something that is vital (and pretty helpful) when planning your finances. During match weeks you will get a subsidy of £55k a week to help your finances due to the the First Class games not running at the minute (will be coming in a few months time).

In div 6 this year I believe top 2 auto promote and 3-4 have a play off game against the teams that finished 5-6 in div5, so you don't need to win the league this year.

If you can keep on winning then i'd expand your ground properly, the fact there is a £20k charge added onto the cost of the seats at every expansion means i wouldn't do it just for more members' seats.

Tractor can take his time and build a team to get promoted for next season as he has no real chance this season.

You might have 1 or 2 good players - some people have got some really good players to start with.

I sacked all but 2 of my starting squad, and even the ones i kept aren't that good.

Read the rules a bit and understand what skills a player needs, then you should be able to pick up some players to form the core of you team for next to nothing. (most of my players were < £5).

This should allow you to start winning games, which will bring some cash in (more gate receipts, more sponsorship) and start getting you up the table next season, so you'll have more to spend on better players.

You also want to get a decent training regime going with your nets.

Cheers Bongo, ive found a few sites with begineers guides on, so ill follow a few of those tips to get me going.
Looking at the stats I think i got 2 resonable players.

I think my top tip is don't waste money, plan ahead.

Also, you will get a £55k subsidy every week during the playing season (but not the 4 week off season) for this and next (until the FC games come in) it should help you balance the books.

Yes, they got "given" a new server by hattrick which worked great, but they reclaimed it after a few weeks and the old one can get a little overloaded on matchdays.

The shortcuts are really handy for buying players and keeping track of mate's teams (or organising a cup).

The extra stats are a nice touch too.

You get a free trial after a few weeks so what til then and see for yourself.

I see my team had a mid innings collapse of England proportions.

That will teach me to mess around with the batting order i guess. Or use a sniper on Ramshires Bowlers.

No, playing will give no improvements (bar experience).

I also wouldn't be training a player who is worthless everywhere.

Stamina alone would need 2 seasons+...

in 2 seasons he would be 19 and still a kid

i prefer players around 24+ for first team

But a trainee with better batting and fitness but worse wk would probably turn into a better player when given 3 nets...

I reckon it would take mediocre wicket keeping about 12-15 weeks to catch up to proficient when given 2 wk nets instead of one...

its hard to get trainees that have good anything though


most of the players are weak everywhere apart from one postion

I have tough fixture too.  Playing the league leaders who have a 100% record .  I have a 100% record since taking over so something has to give, I reckon they have the edge though.  Should still achieve promotion as I'm sitting 2nd and rest of the teams in the league are useless.

I used the 'play up' function for the first time, and it seemed to do the trick.

Just got caught up and managed a win on Friday so hanging on to top of the league status just.

Todays challanger is destroying me, less the hundred from me and he making short work of the reply.

I just wanted to try out all the spinners I have lying around... One of them just scored his first ever run in his 3rd innings!

3rd and 4th places both get a play off for promotion (against a team who finished 5th or 6th in Div5), so it maybe worthwhile saving up so team fitness by "taking it easy" so you can "go for it" with high team fitness and really get a good performance.

I've bought an all-rounder to help with that - just need to train his stamina up so he performs satisfactorily with both bat and ball.

Possibly, I haven't really played much on a Dusty pitch, thought it was a bit odd that on a spinners pitch that our total of 5 spinners only took 4 of the 20 wickets that fell though, considering it's meant to be a spinners pitch.

Prices have gone a little crazy at the minute, I think because a lot of new people are joining and trying to assemble a team. Higher demand = higher prices.

I wouldn't want to buy a kid to train now as he'll age in a couple of weeks, although having said that the price for 17yo will probably go up significantly at the start of the season.

Looking forward to tomorrow, it should be a win but the guy plays so maybe a little challenge. Promotion is already assured just need 1 more win to guarantee 1st place now.

Tractor will be pleased to know that my team warmed up for our rematch with a 9 wicket win yesterday.  McLean only managed a paltry 60-odd not out before he ran out of runs to chase.

Tomorrow should prove to be a more challenging game.  Hopefully I won't have to chase 300 runs this time around.

If anyone challenges me I'll accept later, I'm off out to rugby now and will not be back for a while.
